Mr. Alastair Morgan, the British consul-general in Guangzhou, made a visit to STU and provided public speaking to teachers and students.

On March 28th, British consul-general in Guangzhou, Mr. Alastair Morgan visited STU and made a wonderful speech entitled “The Sino-British Relations in The Next 20 Years” to teachers and students in the Lecture Hall of Library.

 

On that afternoon, the executive principal Gu Peihua met with the Consul General Mr. Morgan, and held talks with him in the second meeting room of the Academic Conference Center. Those who attended the meeting were the dean of the Law School Michael Palmer, the president of the College of Art and Design Wang Shouzhi, the director of the Department of International Exchanges and Cooperation Liao Xuequan and the deputy professor of Journalism College Bai Jing. Gu Peihua expressed the warm welcome to Mr. Morgan, and spoke highly of the remarkable achievement of British economy and trade, social welfare, medical service, education, etc. Meanwhile, Gu Peihua introduced the situation of cooperation between STU and several colleges and universities in Britain. Mr. Morgan introduced the international status quo of British colleges and universities. He hoped that this visit would help the teachers and students in STU enhance the understanding of Britain and British colleges and universities so as to improve the exchanges and cooperation in academy and education between Britain and China.

At 3:00 pm, Mr. Morgan gave a speech entitled “The Sino-British Relations in The Next 20 Years” in the Lecture Hall of Library. The speech was taken charge by the executive principal Gu Peihua.

 

At first, Mr. Morgan addressed with fluent Chinese to attendants, expressing his gratitude for the hospitality of our school’s leaders and teachers, and briefly introduced the purpose and theme of this trip.

 

In the speech, Mr. Morgan introduced British spirit of innovation on science and technology, energy, culture and education in detailed. He also particularly noted the National Health Service, of which British are proud. At the same time, Mr. Morgan expressed his highly appreciation for Chinese excellent achievement of development on political, economic and academic aspects. He carried on the review and prospect on the close relation of the above aspects and friendly exchanges between Britain and China, British universities and Shantou University. Mr. Morgan was full-hearted for the future exchanges and cooperation on the above aspects between Britain and China, British universities and Shantou University.

 

In the Q&A session of his speech, our school’s teachers and students enthusiastically asked questions. Mr. Morgan made careful and earnest replies. At last, Gu Peihua presented a souvenir to Mr. Morgan.
