2017 STU English Festival came to a satisfactory close

The 2017 STU English Festival Opening Night, held by the ELC at the STU Sports Park, took place on Friday, Dec. 1st. This year’s theme was “The Imperfect Self”. Opening Night featured dance acts and a modern play written by STU teachers and students. Also, award ceremonies were held for the ELC1 Video Contest and the 2017 STU English Festival T-shirt Image Competition. The final rounds of the 2017 STU English Festival Speech and Singing Contests took place on Saturday, Dec. 2nd and Sunday, Dec. 3rd, respectively. In all three competitions, contestants from our school who stood out during preliminary and semi-final rounds and contestants from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Chinese Culture University, Kanda University of International Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Macau University of Science and Technology worked hard to compete for the prizes.


On December 1st, the opening ceremony was held in the STU Sports Park. The Dean of College of Liberal Arts and English Language Center, Professor Mao Sihui, delivered a speech and showed warm welcome to all the students and guests. In the award ceremonies for the ELC1 Video Contest, Cai Jianlin won the Best Film Award, Zhang Yuanle and Li Jiafeng won the Best Director Award and the Best Sound Effects Award, and Chen Sihan won the Best Story Award and the Best Editing Award.


The modern play, The Imperfect Self, written by STU teachers and students, was greatly appreciated by the audience. After the play, it came to the 2017 STU English Festival T-shirt Image Competition. Among ten finalists, Lin Zheyu won the first prize, Zhou Chuyu and Chen Jiachengwon the second prizes, and Gu Yu won the third prize.


As for the Speech Contest, Chen Jiaying, who is from Beijing Foreign Studies University, won the win the championship, and the contestants from STU, Mo Qiantong and Hu Yongyi won the second and third place. On the other hand, STU students, Xiao Minyi and Zhheng Jieqi won the Best Debate Group Award of the Debate Contest, and Cao Yuxuan who is from Beijing Foreign Studies University won the Best Oralist Award. As for the Singing Contest, the competition was even more intense. At last, Wu Yiye, who is from Macau University of Science and Technology won the first prize, Qi Xiangyue from STU and Manami Ando from Kanda University of International Studies won the second prize, and Li Ching Ching from Chinese Culture University and Zhong Yanfen from STU won the third prize.
