From February 24 to 26, Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was held at Renmin University of China.A total of 49 national law colleges and universities participated in the competition, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University and other famous colleges and universities. The scale of competition is the largest ever.Shantou University Law School has been sending a team consisting of undergraduates for seven consecutive years to participate in the competition. Head coach Gu Junfeng leads five team members: Gao Yudi (foreign-related law,14), Lan Kaiyu(law,14), Lin Xiaofan(law,14), Xie Ting(law, 15) and Lu Zijing(law, 15). With plentiful preparation and efforts they performed very well and won the National second prize in the rank of 11th.
The contest will focus on the validity of arbitration, sovereignty and security of territorial waters, nuclear disarmament and legality of the use of force. Arguments will be held in English and in accordance with the proceedings of the International Court of Justice.In the round-round competition, the Shantou University Law School team has debated against Peking University, Shanghai Maritime University, Hehai University and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics.College team with solid legal skills, careful logical thinking, fluent oral English expression and flexible response ability, won the favor of judges, in 49 teams ranked 11th promotion.Knockout matches against University of international Business and Economic team, although lost the game, but the performance of the law team also won the judge's recognition and praise.The law school team displayed the style and appearance of Shantou University students on the field, and also increased the confidence of breaking through themselves and making good achievements in the coming year.
