On December 5th, 2016, People's Government of Guangdong Province was informed of the news that Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) was approved to be set up by the Ministry of Education.

Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology is a Sino-foreign cooperative university with  independent legal qualification, which is established by Israel Institute of Technology and Shantou University. Mr. Li Jiange, the famous economist, will be the principal, and Professor Aaron Ciechanover will be the vice principal.

Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology is a beneficial attempt to establish excellent Sino-foreign cooperative university. Its establishment is supported by the government and Li Kashing Foundation. On the other hand, it aims at being a outstanding research university with great comprehensive competence, and excellent educational resources will be introduced into the school to cultivate talents for creating new technologies and promoting the development of society.

According to the plan, Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology will pay more attention to the synergy of education, research and innovation by learning from the Knowledge Triangle model of Israel Institute of Technology, so that it can give enough support to the technology development and the innovation system.

Besides, Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology will start its enrollment in 2017, and it’s said that the number of enrolled students will be 2960. All the teachers will be recruited from the whole world, and over 60% of them will be provided by Israel Institute of Technology, and the school district can be put into use in March, 2017.
