On December 1st, 2016, the result of The Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging Economies University Rankings 2017 was announced by Times Higher Education. This time, the ranking includes 300 universities from 41 countries, and Shantou University ranks 169 out of all the universities, and it also is ranked 38th among all the listed Chinese universities.
Bartee, the chief editor of Times Higher Education, thinks that it is difficult to enter the BRICS & Emerging Economies University Rankings, because this ranking uses the same 13 performance indicators as the flagship THE World University Rankings to judge institutions on their teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook, and the included universities have to show excellent performances in these aspects and to compete with other universities from 41 countries. Therefore, he sincerely congratulated Shantou University for being in this ranking.
Recently, the education quality of Shantou University has been recognized widely in the field of higher education worldwide. In 2015 and 2016, Shantou University was listed into the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Besides, it also entered the BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings and Asian University Rankings in 2015. In 2016, Shantou University was awarded the 2016 QS World University Four-Star rating. All these achievement show the strength of Shantou University and the positive result of internationalized reform and development very fully.
The BRICS & Emerging Economies University Rankings was first announced by Times Higher Education in 2013. The ranked universities must from the emerging economies countries and districts which are classified by FTSE. This year, the ranking includes 300 universities, up from 200 institutions last year, and the universities are from 41 countries, up from 35 last year.
