In the morning of May 6th, in memory of the 69th Red Cross day, Shantou Red Cross held a series of commemorate activities in the North Square of Lin Baixin Exhibition Center to carry forward the spirit of the Red Cross: "Humanity, Fraternity and Dedication". The presented guests were Zhao Hong (赵红), the vice mayor and the president of the Shantou Red Cross, Zheng Yanping (郑衍平), director of Shantou Health and Family Planning Department, and Huang Shaobin (黄少斌), the vice director of Shantou University Organization and Publicity Department. Xu Qiuyuan (许秋源) and Lin Huanhuan (林欢欢) from Shantou TV station were invited to be the hosts in this activity.

Instructor of Shantou University Philanthropic Water Rescue Course, Guo Junhao (郭俊浩), leading the members from the other six Shantou philanthropic organizations, together swear to take the membership in the Red Cross service. The vice mayor, Zhao Hong, awarded an honor flag to the representative from Shantou University Philanthropic Water Rescue Course, which shows Shantou government’s acknowledgement to STU’s effort in the publicity of water safety.

Through this activity, citizens would know about danger prevention, self-rescue, AIDS, and philanthropic matters like stem-cell donation, organs donation and voluntary blood donation. At the meantime, this activity promoted Shantou Red Cross’s development in depth. A creative combination of a Chaoshan custom, the lantern riddles, and the spirit of Red Cross aroused very much of the citizen’s interest and made the publicity of the Red Cross really compelling. Citizens learned emergency skills by taking part in the simulation of CPR, wounds healing, water rescue and mountain rescue. Red Cross volunteers lectured first-aid skills and at the same time perform the right way to help and give help. In the same day, there was a launch ceremony of a blood donation project named “House of Blood Donation” (A hematopoietic stem cells donation site).

This activity was also one of the philanthropic activities of STU, which echoes the present theme of Guangdong education, “Mutual Service, Innovation and Development”. Shantou University assisted Shantou Red Cross in activity publicity, outdoors stereo equipment, performance arrangement and so on.
