The Times Institute of higher Education (Thames) released its emerging Economies University Rankings list of emerging Economies University Rankings 2018 in the early hours of May 10, which included 378 universities from 42 countries and regions. Shantou University tied 184, ranked 46 among 63 mainland Chinese universities.

The ranking was first published in 2013 by Thames higher Education, one of the world's most influential universities ranking institute. The rankings must come from countries and regions listed as emerging or frontier economies by FTSE.
