During April 26-27, the first China-Israel East Guangdong Academic Exchange Forum held in Shantou University. Twenty scholars from Israel Institute of Technology, Guangdong Israel Institute of Technology, Shantou University of Technology and College of Science presented their latest achievements in the field of academic research. The report covers some important research fields of science and engineering, including electromechanical integration, energy control, biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, material science, molecular chemistry, dynamics, acoustics and so on.

Professor Gu Peihua, Executive President of Shantou University, and Professor Eliezer Shalev, Executive Vice President of Guangdong Israel Institute of Technology, respectively delivered opening speeches, while Professor Lin Danming, Vice President of Shantou University and Vice President of Guangdong Israel Institute of Technology, made concluding remarks. The forum was chaired by Professor Fang Qiang, head of Department of Biomedical Engineering in Shantou University.

Through a day and a half report, researchers in the field of science and technology shared research findings with academic wisdom, ideological sparks and creative ideas. The speeches of professor Anas Fisher of the Israel Polytechnic Institute, Professor Niu Xiaodong of the Shantou University and assistant professor Xu Xinpeng of the Israeli Polytechnic Institute in Guangdong caused a warm discussion by the participants.

Professor Gu Peihua, the sponsor of the forum, spoke highly of the success of the event. He said: in recent years, Shantou University and Israel Institute of Technology have carried out a number of scientific research cooperation, especially in the fields of water treatment and advanced manufacturing technology. After the formal establishment of Guangdong Israel Polytechnic Institute of Technology, Shantou University and Guangdong Israel Institute of Technology also reached an agreement to apply for scientific research funds. China-Israel Science and Technology Guangdong Academic Exchange Forum was held in this context.

As early as December 18, 2017, when the Guangdong Israel Institute of Technology held its opening ceremony, Professor Gu Peihua discussed with Professor Jolam Hallawi, President of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the Israeli Institute of Technology, who was invited to participate in the event, to hold an academic exchange event. To prompt substantive cooperation among Shantou University, Israel Institute of Technology and Guangdong Israel Institute of Technology in scientific research projects, platform construction, joint graduate training, and so on, so as to set up a multidisciplinary research team for STU-GTIIT-Technion. This will lay a good foundation for closer and deeper scientific research and academic exchange among the three universities in the future. After the seminar, Dean Harvey responded with similar hopes. He spoke highly of the seminar and thanked Shantou University and Guangdong Israel Institute of Technology for their organization. The successful holding of the East Guangdong Academic Exchange Forum will strengthen the relationship between researchers and establish a sustainable long-term cooperative relationship.
