STU students achieved success in the semi-finals of the National Interpretation Competition.

 

On April 16, the fifth "Zhong Yi Cup" National Interpretation (English) Competition of Guangdong and Hainan was held in Guangzhou University. After fierce competition, Luo Cong and Li Salong the second prize, and successfully entered into the region competition in south China in May. Chen Jie was awarded a prize of excellent teachers.

 

"Zhong Yi Cup" National Interpretation (English) Competition was arranged by China Translation Association and China Translation and Publishing Corporation. It is one of the most important competitions. There were almost eighty participants had took part in this competition. Leading by Professor Chen Jie and Professor Wen Bing, Luo Cong, Li Salong, Guan Xiaomei, Wang Dan, Chen Qiugu, and Liu xin participated in the competition.

 

The competition was made up of two parts, translation from English to Chinese and translation from Chinese to English, and the topics were about clean energy, Sino-Australian trade, work environment and middle-income trap. In the end, the first prize was awarded for the students from Sun Yat-sen University, and the second prize was awarded for the students from Shantou University, Sun Yat-sen University, and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.

 

Since 2012, the students of College of Liberal Arts have achieved better grades in this competition. It was the first time for the students to win other students who majored in Interpretation and Translation. It showed the great achievements of Shantou University’s  advanced education reform and the efforts of all the Foreign Language Department teachers.
