The research team led by Zheng Huaiping won the gold medal of the 7th Shantou Patent Award

 

In the afternoon of April 20th, Shantou Municipal and Shantou Municipal Government held the working conference of Intellectual Property and Patent Reward. The secretary of Shantou Municipal Party Committee Chen Liangxian, the mayor Zheng Renhao, the director of Intellectual Property Office Ma Xianmin, and the city leaders Huang Huiyang, Lin Yimin and Xu Ruiming  attended this meeting and presented awards to the representatives of the Patent Award.

 

The research team led by Zheng Huaiping, the professor of STU Marine Biological Institute, won the gold medal of the 7th Shantou Patent Award by their research results of the breeding methods to the new golden strains of chlamys nobilis that contains abundant natural carotenoids. Professor Zheng Huaiping was on behalf of the team to attend the meeting and to accept the award.

 

This award-winning patent is the core patent of the chlamys nobilis, Namoa Golden Scallop, a new national aquatic products. Its golden color, high sensory quality, abundant carotenoids and strong ability to resist low temperature are the prominent features of this new kind of scallops which is cultivated by this technology. After the demonstrated cultivation in Guangdong, Shenzhen, Hainan, Fujian and Malaysia, Namoa Golden Scallop is widely popular among the consumers and the scallop fishery, and its economic benefit is quite significant. It also effectively alleviates the problem about the southern scallop aquaculture industry’s shortage of fine breeds, which is of great significance to the breed updates.
