STEAM Program

Current position: Home -> STEAM Program

STEAM is an acronym for the transdisciplinary integration of the five disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. Integrated STEAM Education places priority on students’ experimental learning. To promote and encourage the sustainable development of female students in the field of science and engineering, Esther Hall officially launched the STEAM Program - “YuXiu Program” in January 2021. The program is intended for female students majoring in science and engineering in Shantou University, which aims to achieve their all-round development through interdisciplinary learning. Through a series of STEAM-centered activities organized by Esther Hall, it is expected to create more opportunities and resources to support those female students’ continued development in the research field of science and engineering. The STEAM PROGRAM consists two schemes of hostel stay, which are one-semester stay and one-year stay respectively.

Esther Hall selects female students from science and engineering majors to stay in student hostels and carries out a tailored and elaborated training scheme based on individual needs. For the Master’s Lecture series, famous domestic and international scientists and academics in science and engineering would be invited to deliver on-line lectures or on-site sharing sessions on cutting-edge knowledge of disciplines. For the Academic and Career Planning Lecture series, outstanding domestic and international scientists and academics in science and engineering would be invited to share their stories on academic growth and career development. What is more, Esther Hall gives those female students opportunities for external academic exchanges, such as subsidizing them to attend disciplinary summer camps and academic conferences. It organizes various activities on interdiscipline, arts, humanity, sports and fitness, and provides venues for those students to study, communicate and relax freely.
