01 Summer Exchange Program ELIS

Fan and Yang shared the overall project process of the SummerExchange Program ELIS

First, Fan briefly introduced the background and purpose of the ELIS program. She specifically pointed out the educational philosophy of Ewha Womans University, that is, it attaches importance to each individual’s independent human dignity, and consequently uses “Womans” instead of “Women” in the school name.

Fan Yuchen Who’s Recruited by ELIS Program

On-line Sharing by Yang Zichen

Fan and Yang shared the research and program progress of the study camp based on the participants and the course schedule.

In the initial period of preparing documents and applying for the program, they didn’t have the confidence that they could be recruited by the ELIS program while confronting severe constraints of time and numerous required documents. Since there were only three places available for Chinese Students, they submitted the program materials with a mindset of “giving it a whirl”. But as it turned out, outstanding people who worked hard would be seen. They were recruited by the ELIS program with excellent results and successfully joined the study camp.

While staying at the study camp, they continuously developed themselves upward, delivered female power, and at the same time set themselves as good example of female role model. Fan said that she used to believe role models would stand high above the masses and out of the reach. Not until attended the program did she realize that she was actually surrounded by many role models that are influential and charismatic. This was one of the significant reasons why the STEAM program of Esther Hall organized the series event of SHE · Role Model.

02 Ewha Womans University

The lecturer Liu Zhonghui shared her experience in Ewha Womans University

Ms. Liu Zhonghui showed the students present an online tour of Ewha Womans University as a graduated alumna. They have visited the campus building, including the library, dormitory building, classroom, and canteen.

The familiar photos called up Ms. Liu’s old time in Korea for ten years as an overseas student. When she first arrived in Korea, the language barrier largely affected her daily life. She studied Korean following the principle of gradual improvement and became accustomed to local life. She eventually found her confidence and initiated conversations with others.

The Lecturer Liu Zhonghui

While studying in Ewha Womans University, Ms. Liu has engaged in various events and organizations to improve her personal skills. She sang in the singing contest to show off her beautiful voice and shared her academic opinion in the speech contest. She organized several events while taking the role of the president of the students’ union. She also joined the Chinese Student Union to spread Chinese culture. The 10-year overseas study constantly inspired her to explore and study, and be a better self.

#SHE SAYS

2019 Food Safety and Detection Major, Xie Meiqi

It seems that the ELIS program is a global STEM program that enables females in the STEAM field to make progress and evolve. We females in the STEAM field might be looked down upon, but we must not be afraid. Instead, we have to be strong, and dare to express ourselves and be ourselves!

2021 Statistics Major, Zeng Jiayi

After this sharing session, I gained a better understanding of the ELIS program. I would say women in science with well-defined goals are cool! One of the invited schoolfellows who shared her view on gender somewhat inspired me. I also benefited a lot from Ms. Liu’s sharing, and I liked the philosophy of “WOMANS” adhering by Ewha Womans University. Ms. Liu’s personal experience worked for me.

2021 Civil Engineering Major, Huang Zehao

I came to know a good school - Ewha Womans University. I learned what is female leadership, and realized the tough experience exposing to women in workplace. I hope that there will be less prejudice against women in the future and I would do more to help women.
