On the afternoon of April 1, 2023, the lecture on“Outdoor Basics and First Aid Workshop” was held in the multi-functional hall on the second floor of Esther Hall. The event invited Mr. Li Ran and Coach Wu Yonglin to guide and share their outdoor knowledge.

The lecture was divided into two parts: outdoor basics and first aid, and some simple first aid skills.

A Discussion on Outdoor Risk Management

Firstly, Mr. Li Rang emphasized the importance of safety awareness and risk management ability in outdoor activities. He also highlighted the importance of risk assessment and suggested that individuals who participate in outdoor activities should understand the risk levels of different activities, evaluate their physical condition, skill level, and equipment conditions, and develop suitable plans accordingly.

Additionally, Mr. Li Rang mentioned the impact of slope topography, environment, team, and equipment on outdoor activities. He introduced how different slope topography has different impacts on the safety risks of outdoor activities and emphasized the need to evaluate one’s ability and safety risks and take corresponding precautions.

In outdoor activities, team cooperation and collaboration are also crucial. Participants should respect their teammates, cooperate with each other, support and assist each other to ensure the safety of the entire team.

Outdoor Basics and First Aid Knowledge

Next, Coach Wu Yonglin shared with us his knowledge on outdoor basics, hiking, cross-country, and some simple first aid skills, providing participants with comprehensive outdoor safety knowledge.

In addition, Coach Wu also introduced how to correctly wear and use various outdoor equipment, including backpacks, trekking poles, etc., and explained in detail the characteristics and usage methods of equipment made from different materials, as well as how to maintain and care for them.

Listening and interaction on site

At the end of the lecture, a medical student took the initiative to demonstrate the key points of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the audience.

Using vivid language and actual operations, she explained how to deal with unconscious outdoor casualties and emphasized the necessity of first aid knowledge.

This scene brought the atmosphere to a climax, and the students present were inspired by the enthusiasm and professionalism of the medical student. It also made us more aware that learning first aid knowledge and skills is not only a survival skill that every outdoor enthusiast must have, but also a responsible attitude towards oneself and others.
