“Every girl has the right to romance, and I want to give romance to every girl.”

“Don’t worry about not being able to do things perfectly. Without trying, how will you know what the end result will be?”

“Flowers are not just romantic and poetic. If they can help others, they can also represent a hope.”

(Flowers placed in the lobby of Esther Hall)

On the afternoon of March 26th, nearly a hundred carnations were sent to Esther Hall.

“A flower shop where I often buy flowers suddenly had a big sale. Later, I learned that the flowers were not selling well due to the epidemic, so I thought I could do something to help.” Li Huina, a 2020-grade graduate student in Chinese language and literature, said as she arranged the bouquet.

(20级中国语言文学研究生 李辉娜)

Esther Hall: Why did you think of giving flowers to Esther Hall?

Li Huina: When I sold fresh flowers at the market on New Year’s Eve this year, I found that many girls loved flowers but couldn’t bring themselves to buy them for various reasons. So, I wanted to bring romance to these girls and let them understand that it is meaningful and necessary to pay attention to and love oneself. Also, the vision of Esther Hall is“to lead and to serve”, aiming to cultivate more outstanding women, which I admire. I also appreciate the events organized by Esther Hall, which are not only exciting and creative but also meaningful. So, when I started doing this,“Esther Hall” came to mind.

Esther Hall: How did you become aware of the problem of unsold flowers?

Li Huina: I personally love flowers and usually buy them online. One day, I saw that the flowers from the shop I often buy from suddenly went on sale. After asking the owner, I found out that due to the lockdowns caused by the pandemic in places like Shanghai, the demand for flowers from Yunnan was low, causing the flowers to go unsold. So, I thought maybe I could do something to help.

Esther Hall: What are some ways to help those in need?

Li Huina: You can follow some news online, such as areas affected by the pandemic or some impoverished mountainous areas, and see if they need help and what you can do for them. In addition to the flower industry, many other industries are affected by the pandemic, such as tourism and catering, and there are also many ordinary people who need help for various reasons. It is not difficult to find people and things that need help. The question is whether or not to do something about it.

Esther Hall: From observation to practice, what do you need most to do charity work?

Li Huina: I think the most important thing is courage. During the process of helping to sell unsold flowers, some of my friends would advise me not to do it, thinking that the effort I put in would not be proportional to the reward. But that’s just who I am. Once I make up my mind to do something, I will work hard to do it. Moreover, for me, charity is love, and love does not need to be calculated in terms of gains and losses. There are many ways to do charity work, regardless of size. With courage and determination, we can do something practical.

We are grateful for Li Huina’s warm-hearted help to the struggling flower business and her gift of fresh flowers to Esther Hall, so we have decided to share this fragrant beauty with every female student at Shantou University.

The bouquet is limited, first come first served!
